Rebe’s Play Café

Looking for an indoor place to play? Want some coffee and pastries in the morning, and your kid is snack-crazed? Head to Rebe’s in St Paul.

Details

Rebe’s is an independent shop that I would describe as “play place first, café second. It has 3 play areas, and at the center is a kitchen/dining area. The play areas are warm and inviting, and are stocked with toys. I typically suggest that Rebe’s is best for the newborn to three year olds out there, though my five year old still enjoys going (but that may be more a function of nostalgia and familiarity than anything).

Rebe’s offers snacks catered towards kids, with small cups of goldfish, Cheerios, Ritz crackers, and yogurt sticks (sleeves?), apple sauce pouches, oranges, cheese sticks, etc. Kids can grab these out of the case themselves, which is a blessing and a curse. I connected enough with staff that I’d leave my tab open for the whole visit and let my kid grab snacks herself, show it to the staff, and they would add to the tab without my involvement at all. Opening a tab and paying only once reduces fees for Rebe’s.

Rebe’s also has the typical coffee lineup, pastries like muffins and croissants, and they even make lunch items. That means flatbread pizzas, sandwiches, and a selection of pre-made soup-like options like ramen.

They even have ice cream, though I have never once bought it strictly because I don’t need my kid begging for ice cream every time we go.

If you need more of a reason to go, the owners are incredible people and I was lucky to get to know them over the past few years. Truly “community” people.

Many cold mornings spent sitting outside while baby slept in the bike.
