Collider is a simple web app that helps people meet up together without the hassle of a lot of planning or pressure of being the first to ask.
When you are at the park, and thinking it would be nice if a friend showed up, but you don’t want to text anyone who might be able to actually come, you can use Collider. Create a “signal” with your destination, ETA, and a short message. That signal broadcasts to trusted friends, and then they can reach out to you or just show up.
- Use your normal networks for communication: texts, phone calls, messaging apps, etc.
- Set an expiration to your signal so friends aren’t turning up in the last 5 minutes before you planned to leave.
- One signal at a time, current day only, means you aren’t balancing a weeks worth of scheduling.
- No “likes”, comments, upvotes.
How to use
- Go to the app and create an account with email and password.
- Add a Display Name, which will show to other users (otherwise, it will default to email address).
- Add friends in the Friends screen using exact email or display names. Connections must be confirmed from both ends before signals can be seen.
- Create a list of saved locations in the My Places screen (optional)
- Create a signal!
Adding to Home Screen
This web app is not a typical “app” on your phone, but it can act as one. It can be added to your home screen and receive notification “badges”, the little number counts, for each signal or pending friend request. Note, it doesn’t send you push notifications at all.
- For iOS, go to the web address and then from your browser open the Share menu, scroll down past the typical options, and find “Add to Home Screen”. Choose “Add as Web App”. Sign in to the app from this new app on your home screen.
- For Android, go to web address for Collider and from the browser use the Three Dot Menu and find “Install App” or “Add to Home Screen”.
