Longfellow Park

Another playground review, this time a little closer to home than some of the more recent reviews. Longfellow Park is in, erm, the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis, and covers one square city block. It has tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, a basketball court, rec center, pool, a few grills and, of course, a playground.

Mississippi Gateway Regional Park – Part 2

This is going back a few weeks to our bike ride out to Mississippi Gateway Regional Park in Brooklyn Park, but I want to be sure I cover the actual playground at this large park. In the “Part 1” post I only talked about the Mini-Mississippi water feature, which I think is really the distinguishing… Continue reading Mississippi Gateway Regional Park – Part 2

West Fenwick Park Playground, Kent WA

A Chutes and Ladders park.

In Washington state we checked out a newer playground in Kent, built atop a hill between I-5 and state Highway 167 and the absolute warehouse town in the valley. The playground is built as a giant Chutes and Ladders board game. There is a path of squares to move along, and the number of squares… Continue reading West Fenwick Park Playground, Kent WA

Cross Park in Frederickson, WA

On a trip the family stopped at a county park in Frederickson, WA called Cross Park. Finished in 2021, the park is unlike any I have seen in its details. It is a wood and steel construction built on an artificial turf surface. Everything feels extremely smooth and durable, leaving a very premium impression. Unfortunately,… Continue reading Cross Park in Frederickson, WA

Mississippi Gateway Regional Park – Part 1

A few weeks ago I did that thing where I carry out some plan that probably isn’t a good idea, but I am sort of set on it, so let’s just start biking. A few hours later I ended up at Mississippi Gateway Regional Park in Brooklyn Park. Rather than arriving mid-morning like I planned,… Continue reading Mississippi Gateway Regional Park – Part 1

Hillcrest Elementary

Classic colors at an old school on a summer day.

This isn’t the playground I grew up with, but it is it’s successor. The Hillcrest Elementary playground in Bloomington was rebuilt probably more than a decade ago, so I don’t have first hand experience as a kid playing on it, but I do go back to visit it a couple times a year. It’s a… Continue reading Hillcrest Elementary

Reynolds Park

I was in Bloomington the other day, over near the west side, when I had a free morning with the littlest kid and I ended up at Reynolds Park just northwest of Hyland Park. The play equipment is branded as Xccent Play, though that is a bit of a mystery as I can’t find any… Continue reading Reynolds Park

Woodhaven

There is a large “destination” playground in Eagan that I recently heard about, Woodhaven. I initially just checked it out online and was largely dismissive of it because of the evident lack of shade. It’s entirely surfaced with poured-in-place rubber (PIP) which also gives that extra “sun baked” feeling to it, that feeling they cleared… Continue reading Woodhaven
