"Vroom!"

Vroom!, by Barbara McClintock, is a high octane story of imagination that stretches to the horizon. It follows a little girl who jumps into a mini racecar, fastens her helmet and lets it rip. There isn’t so much to say about this one besides praise for the clean bold lines of the illustration that offer sweeping landscape scenes mixed with Top Gear-esque action shots as the tire smoke erupts from the pavement.

The geometric illustrations in this book are beautifully colored. They remind me of Spaceman Spiff strips from Calvin and Hobbes, with the wide landscapes that are awesome in scope-- the difference here is that the landscapes are instantly familiar, rather than alien.
