"The Day the Crayons Came Home"

“The Day the Crayons Came Home”, written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated Oliver Jeffers, opens with the arrival of a stack of postcards sent from long-lost crayons. Each successive postcard details the journeys and circumstances of the lost crayons as they start to travel back home.

A delight to read to a young crayon user, this book is an easy read (no hard stops, no cliffhangers between page turns) and offers the opportunity to put it down and pick it back up again over multiple readings. It likely could be done while drawing with crayons.

I recommend it.

Each page features a different color of crayon, each with a distinct personality and experience. The art is like a collage, with an illustrated crayon superimposed over a typically "retro" postcard from a different landmark.
